Matawa Employment Services

Matawa Employment & Training (MET) offers practical career, employment and individual counseling to ensure that you make the very best choices for your future.

Our programs include:

  1. Community Initiatives; to support the broader community development of Matawa First Nations by providing training and employment opportunities that will improve infrastructures, businesses and human resources at the community level.
  2. Individual Initiatives; to assist First Nation individuals to improve their personal employment skills and career potential via job training, placements and counseling services.
  3. Regional Initiatives; to provide greater opportunities for more than one First Nation community to participate in regional employment training initiatives. 
  4. Youth Initiatives; to assist First Nations youth between the ages of 13 and 30 years old to gain meaningful employment skills and experience.
  5. Apprenticeship Programs; to increase First Nation participation in Apprenticeship Trades Training with regional employers.
  6. Income Support Policy; to assist applicants who may be eligible for Income Support during their training programs.
  7. Aboriginal Arts and Culture Teacher Training Program; developed within the Ontario Curriculum standards, course initiates importance cultural value. Click here to view PDF download.

Matawa Employment

Employee Assistance Services

Employment Assistance Services (EAS) are available through the Matawa Employment & Training Centre to provide guidance and support to unemployed Aboriginal people living in the city of Thunder Bay.

EAS also offers a fully equipped Resource Centre with free access to:

  • Computers and Internet
  • Job Opportunity Boards
  • Fax Machine/Photocopying
  • Information and Resource Materials
  • Telephone and Message Service for Employment Services
  • Referral to Community Services

Our friendly team of Employment Counsellors is on hand Monday to Friday to work with you, either in person or via telephone between 8:30am and 4:30pm.
